Eugene Albert Kelsey, 101, of Reno, Nev., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the Emeritus at The Seasons in Reno. A private family committal service, with military honors, will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Eugene was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Linn County, Iowa, to Orendo and Clara (McAdow) Kelsey. After he graduated from high school, Eugene attended the University of Iowa before enlisting in the United States Army during World War II. He served honorably from 1939 to 1945. On Dec. 23, 1941, Eugene was united in marriage to Edna Mae Haller in Kahoka, Mo. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
Eugene worked as a mechanic lead man and shop foreman for the United States Postal Service for 32 years. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the VFW, and enjoyed volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital.
Eugene is survived by a son, Everett (Mary Ann) Kelsey of Sun Valley, Nev.; grandson, Bruce James (Melissa) Kelsey of Fresno, Calif.; granddaughter, DeAnn Kelsey (Spencer) McAtee of Fernley, Nev.; four great-grandchildren, Alex J. Kelsey, Jessica M. Kelsey, Austin E. McAtee and Kate Lynn McAtee; as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Corey R. Kelsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edna, in 2009.
