Eugene ‘Gene’ Lawrence McLean, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. As per Gene's request, cremation has taken place, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Gene was born on March 2, 1943, to Marion Myrtle Nessel and Eben Lang McLean in Evergreen Park, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Jodi Jedlicka on July 29, 1977, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Gene deeply loved music, with an extraordinary passion for singing and leading church music. He was an incredibly gifted teacher, and he used that gift over the years leading small group Bible studies. He adored Christmas, always putting together the most spectacular light displays and decorations. Gene and his wife, Jodi, shared a deep love for animals. They have welcomed and cared for numerous dogs over the years.
Gene was a godly man who lived his principles throughout his life. We grieve his loss but rejoice that he is at peace in the arms of his Savior.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jodi McLean; stepson, Doug (Saba) Lawrence; sister, Lowanna (Jim) Bujaki; brother-in-law, Rick (Paula) Jedlicka; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be in the care of Jodi McLean.
