Eugene B. Baxter, 104, of Marion, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 1 p.m. The Rev. Steven Knudson of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment: private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 81 years, Vern Ann Baxter; his children, William Baxter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ric Baxter of Marion, Iowa, and Barbara (Gerald) Baxter-Thompson of Ryan, Iowa; his grandchildren, R.J. (Lynn Marie) Baxter of Evergreen, Colo., and Melissa (John) Jackovion of Johnston, Iowa; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law, Karen Baxter.
Eugene was born June 18, 1913, in Princeton, Iowa, the son of Claude and Ethel (Fraser) Baxter. On Aug. 22, 1936, he married Vern Ann Hering in Davenport, Iowa. Eugene was a businessman in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated John Deere, Baxter Motors and Baxter/Dvorak. He also owned and operated other various businesses and farms in the area. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of El Kahir Temple. Eugene and Vern loved traveling and traveled the world.
