Etscheidt, Virginia M.
Virginia M. Etscheidt, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at West Ridge Care Center following a short illness. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Watkins. Friends may visit Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home from 4 until 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m.
Survivors include her children, Ron (Barb) Etscheidt of Anamosa, Coreen (Richard) Anson and Les (Carlie) Etscheidt of Cedar Rapids, and Diana (Mark) Ash of Fairfax; grandchildren, Erin (Lonnie), Chris, Alison, Kristin (Dan), Scott, Lauren, Carah, Matt, and Lindsey; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester (1996); brother, Donald; and a sister, Marie.
Virginia Mae Etscheidt was born May 1, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Lillian Frances Kouba Stransky. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. Virginia married Lester John Etscheidt on Nov. 18, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Virginia was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and caregiver. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and knitting.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
The family is deeply grateful to the West Ridge Care Center staff, Dr. Voights, St. Luke's Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospice for their personal care and attention to Virginia's needs.
