Etscheidt, Lloyd G.
Lloyd G. Etscheidt, 86, of Dyersville, died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Lloyd may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. and the Dyersville American Legion Post 137 service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at St. Patrick's Church in Watkins. Services for Lloyd will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins, with the Rev. Brian M. Dellaert officiating. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Watkins, with full military honors afforded by Dyersville American Legion Post 137.
Lloyd was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Watkins, Iowa, son of Charles and Mary “Elizabeth” (Smith) Etscheidt. He received his education in the Norway, Iowa area schools. On June 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Martha Lagos at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins. He was employed as an Iowa State Trooper for 28 years from 1952-1980, out of Post 10 of Oelwein.
He was a World War II Army veteran and was involved the in European and South Pacific Theaters. He was a member of Dyersville American Legion Post 137.
Lloyd enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing cards. He was always up to a round of golf. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Etscheidt of Dubuque; five children, Steven (Sherry) Etscheidt of Dubuque, Randy (Susan) Etscheidt of Cedar Falls, Dr. Mark (Susan) Etscheidt of Lexington, Ky., Elizabeth “Bette” (Tom) Przybylski of Cedar Falls and Patricia “Patti” (Bob) Holmes of Millington, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Cyril (Donna) Etscheidt of Watkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Dennis John Etscheidt in 1948.
