Ethel N. Gerot (Hamilton), 93, of Riverside, passed away with her family by her side on Oct. 15, 2021, in Coralville.
Private family services will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Riverside, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Avalon Hospice. Ethel was born May 25, 1928, in Conesville, Iowa, the daughter of Elza and Myrtle (Martin) Hamilton. She graduated from Conesville High School and St. Ambrose University, receiving a degree in nursing. Ethel worked at Mercy Hospital and several nursing homes throughout her career, as well as managed a plasma center in Iowa City. She married the love of her life, Cleo, on June 28, 1950. Ethel and Cleo loved their Hawkeye football and enjoyed attending home and away games. She also enjoyed reading, crafts, collecting teapots and making ceramics. Ethel loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Ethel is survived by her daughters, LaVonne (Curt) Benskin, Lorrainne (Mike) Curry, Susie McKenna and Loralie Dyer; sons, Joe Gerot and John (Robin) Gerot; 15 grandchildren, Stephanie (Jim) Butler, Amy Valdez, Jason (Jenny) Stevens, Ashley and Brandon Mishak, Michael Gerot, Jeremy (Janeanne) Gerot, Allan and Angie Seelman, Emily and Robert Gerot, Dana Landstrum, Tyler McKenna, Meagan Muller and Trace Dyer; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Singleton; and brother, Marvin Hamilton.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Harley and Don Hamilton; and her sister, Carmen Hesseltine.
Special thanks to the staff at Windmill Manor who oversaw Ethel's care and were supportive of the family at the end.
