Ethel Marie Rosenberger, 89, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A private family graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Ethel was born on Oct. 28, 1932, at home in Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Marie (Wilcox) Burnes.
She graduated from Tama High School. Education was very important to Ethel and while in high school she was a member of the National Honor Society.
On Dec. 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to George Rosenberger in Toledo, Iowa. They were married for 69 years. Ethel worked at Loftus Grocery and Beehive in Tama and various other retail places. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her family. Ethel was a member of the Methodist Church Circle and Tama-Toledo Country Club. She and George enjoyed golfing and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include one daughter, Darcy (Dan) Ferguson of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Scott (Teed) Rosenberger of Tama, Stuart Rosenberger of Chelsea and Shane Rosenberger of Coralville; daughter-in-law, Linda Rosenberger of Toledo; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, George, on March 18, 2020; son, Steve Rosenberger; granddaughters, Paige Jacobi and Aubrey Rosenberger at birth; five brothers, Mert Mead, Ray Burnes, Don Burnes, Bob Burnes and Dick Burnes; and one sister, Ruth Rucker.
