Ethel F. Becicka, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at The Meth-Wick Community. As per Ethel's wishes, private services will be held at a later date in Linwood Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Ethel was born April 15, 1925, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Clair Elias and Martha (Meyer) Hoyt. She lived most of her life in Iowa. Ethel graduated from Stanwood High School. She married Frank Becicka of Ely in 1946. They lived in Cedar Rapids, and she helped Frank with his hobby of raising domestic rabbits.
Ethel was a lifetime member of the Ely American Legion Auxiliary St. Quentin Post 555, American Rabbit Breeders Association, Iowa State Rabbit Breeders Association, American Chinchilla Rabbit Breeders Association, and Havana Rabbit Breeders Association. In addition, Ethel did volunteer work and was employed at the Catherine McAuley Center for Women. In 2001, she received the Governor's Volunteer Award for outstanding volunteer service to the state of Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Frank.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Judy; and son-in-law, Patrick Martin of Omaha, Neb.
