Esther Belle Miller Steinbach, 92, of The Woodlands at Meth-Wick, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. A visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, with a rosary led by St. Anne's Circle at 3 p.m. A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Ludmila Church with visitation one hour before. Father Ken Glaser will officiate. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Chariton, Iowa.
Esther Belle was born Feb. 21, 1926, at home in rural Lucas County, the youngest child of Vesta Myrle Brenaman Miller and James Clair Miller. She attended rural schools through eighth grade and graduated from Chariton High School in 1943. On April 28, 1945, she was married to Lawrence Steinbach at the Puget Sound Naval Chapel in Bremerton, Wash. In 1986, she retired from Hy-Vee on Wilson Avenue.
Esther Belle was a member of St. Ludmila Church, St. Anne's Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution, Ashley Chapter. She enjoyed her family, home, playing bridge and traveling with Larry. Volunteer work also had a high priority in her life as she crocheted prayer shawls and lap robes and delivered assorted groceries to many places.
Esther Belle is survived by her children, Louise Wibe of West Bend, Wis., Jeanne (Steve) Brown of Auburn Hills, Mich., Ruthann (Rick) Heidgerken of St. Charles, Ill., Kathy Shelton of Cedar Rapids and Albert (Deborah) Steinbach of Schenectady, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matt Brown, Stephanie Brown, Gerard (Corleen) Heidgerken, Katherine Wooderick, Andrew (Lisa) Heidgerken, Beth (Andy) Dingman, Dan Shelton, Elisa Steinbach and Mary (Ryan) Hokuf; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ray, Justice, Teddy, Sara, Jullian, Maxwell, Phoenix and Brooke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents; her four siblings and their spouses, Mahlon and Jean, Paul and Veda, James and Belva, and Wilma and Clinton; son-in-law, Richard Wibe; four infant grandchildren; and an infant great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Ludmila Church, Meth-Wick or Lucas County Historical Museum.
