Esther Edgerly Stick, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 7, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Vicki Engelmann. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Central City. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Esther was born on Feb. 14, 1931, in Waubeek, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Mildred (Bickel) Ross. She graduated from Central City High School in 1949. On June 9, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa, Esther was united in marriage to Max Edgerly. He passed away in 1976. She married Fay Edgerly in 1979 and he passed away in 1989. Esther married Dean Stick on July 30, 1997, in Alburnett, Iowa. After raising her family and farming, she was employed at Rapids Vending and Rockwell in the food service department. Esther was a lifelong Christian attending River of Life Church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, bird watching, dancing and fishing. Esther was a fabulous cook and loved singing while cooking. She also was a seamstress and enjoyed doing needlework. Esther was the "rock" of the family and loved unconditionally.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Dean Stick; children, Ron (Vicki) Edgerly of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Evan) Moneypenny of Central City, David (Julie) Edgerly of Central City and Linda (David) Possehl of Alburnett; stepchildren, Kelly (Andi) Stick of Baton Rouge, La., Randy (JoAnn) Stick of Minnesota, Scott (Wanda) Stick of Alburnett and Sarah (Dave) Giacalone of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Jeff (Hilary) Edgerly of Champaign, Ill., Brett Edgerly of Cedar Rapids, Holly Emery of Alabama, Kyle Emery of Central City, Kevin Edgerly of Cedar Rapids, Katy Edgerly of Central City, Anna (Jordan) Staal of Hiawatha and Daniel (Kirstin) Possehl of North Liberty; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Payton, and Maxton Edgerly, Elise Smith, Kylee and T.J. Heard, Christa Emery, Waylon Hines and Savannah Londrigan, Naomi Staal and Elise and Avery Possehl.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Max and Fay; son, Brian; two brothers, Everett and Milton Ross; and sister, Edna Moehl.
