Ester Ellen Etzel Knapp, 91, of Waubeek, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Jordan's Grove Baptist Church, Central City, by Pastor Steve Russell. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, and one hour before the service Friday at the church. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Ann) Cornthwaite, Brenda (Vern) Hartson, Thomas
A. Knapp, Nancy Knapp, Roger (Dawn) Knapp, Clarence (Paula) Knapp and Marie Ganoe; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brother, Albert Etzel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, parents and three siblings.
Ester was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Marion, the daughter of Harley Roy and Elizabeth Ann (Hess) Etzel. She graduated from Marion High School and attended Cedar Rapids Business College. Ester married Marvin A. Knapp on Sept. 3, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of Jordan's Grove Baptist Church for 44 years, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. Ester enjoyed flowers, plants, birds and animals of all kinds. She liked to square dance, bowl and exercise at the Central City Fitness Center. Ester was extremely kind hearted, truly loved and will be missed by many family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the HD Youth Center, Cedar Rapids, or to the Jordan's Grove Baptist Church in memory of Ester.
