Ervin J. Miller, 85, of Wellman, formally of the Frytown area, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Parkview of Wellman.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at East Union Mennonite Church with Pastor Joel Beachy officiating. Burial will follow in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona.
A memorial fund for the Alzheimer's Association has been established.
Ervin was born Oct. 26, 1933, east of Frytown in Johnson County, the son of Joe B. and Cora Ellen (Otto) Miller. He attended Lincoln County School.
Ervin was united in marriage to Jennis Norene Hershberger on Nov. 15, 1953, at East Union Mennonite Church. The couple were longtime members of East Union Mennonite Church.
Ervin was a farmer and employed at the Ford garage in Iowa City. He retired in 1997 from the Hydraulic Laboratory at the University of Iowa.
Ervin served as a board member of Sharon Mutual Insurance Co., and the Frytown Water Department. He and Jennis were Amway representatives for many years. Gardening was a hobby he enjoyed.
Survivors include children, Randy Miller (Jody) of Sigourney, Lola McAndrew of Iowa City, LaMar Miller (Kenlyn) of Muscatine, Coletta Bontrager (Errol) of Kalona, Janette Miller of Wellman and Byron Miller (Anna Powers) of Williamsburg; son-in-law, Paul McAndrew Jr. of North Liberty; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jennis; sister, Amy Jean; and great-grandson, Lowell Gingerich.
