Ernestine “Jane” Creech (Ball) peacefully graduated to heaven in her sleep at home on Oct. 9, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Herbert O. Creech, she was also a loving mother and grandmother to Michael Robert Creech and grandson, Marshall Andrew Creech. She was the first child of Mildred and Joseph Ball, on Jan. 6, 1928, in Warsaw, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Paul. In addition to her son and grandson, she is also survived by her brother Carl and sister Bettie, along with many nieces and nephews.
Jane attended Kentucky School for the Deaf where she met her eventual husband, Herbert. They later moved to Arlington, Va. Jane worked for the Washington Post for 28 years in the Classified Ads section and retired from there in 1988. She was a member of the International Typographers Union, the Deaf Seniors of America, and at one point the National Association of the Deaf.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. with the funeral immediately after at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Deaf Seniors of America, Inc.
