ERNEST JOSEPH POKORNY
Bondurant
Ernest Joseph Pokorny, a resident at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant, formerly of Traer, died quietly Monday evening, Nov. 19, at Des Moines Methodist Hospital with family at his bedside at the age of 91. A visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home, 714 First St., Traer, Iowa. A funeral Mass will be on Monday, Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1102 Walnut St., Traer. Following will be burial at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery with full military honors and a luncheon in the church's Fellowship Hall.
Family members preceding Ernest in death were his wife, Gladys; his sister, Leona Velky; his brother, Lester; Ernest's parents, Joe and Hermina; and his step-mother, Mamie.
Ernest is survived by his four children: Steven (Joel Wulf), Kevin (Martha Gelhaus), Cynthia Pokorny Martinez and David (Betsy), all from the Des Moines area; six grandchildren and their spouses; one great-grandson and one greatgrandson on the way; his sister-in-law, Dianne Pokorny; a brother-in-law, Jerry Velky; his stepsister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Vernon Hanus; his stepbrother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Ginny Duhachek; and two sisters-in-law, Marcella Hach and Irene Hach.
