Erna L. (Schmidt) Miller, 97, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born April 28, 1917, in Klinger, Iowa, the daughter of Oswald E. and Bertha (Poock) Schmidt. She married Ivan V. Miller on June 20, 1942, in Tullahoma, Tenn. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2006.
She was a homemaker. Erna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a longtime member of the Dorcas Society and enjoyed quilting.
Surviving are two sons, David Miller of La Porte City and Phillip (Paula) Miller of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Janice Miller of Cass City, Mich., and Sandra (Ken) Long of Blairstown; five grand-children; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Schmidt of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Mark Steven Miller, six brothers and three sisters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo, with burial in West View Cemetery, La Porte City. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at La Porte City Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or Valley Lutheran School.
