Erma I. Lam, 89, of Springville, passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Whittier Quaker Meeting House. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Erma is survived by her children, David Lam, Steve (Dawn) Lam, Linda (John) Tharp and Mark (Barbara) Lam; 11 grandchildren, Leslie, Jeff, Sarah, Joel, Marie, Benjamin, Moza, Emily, Noah, Gabriel and Babette; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Hoose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Gregg Lam; and siblings, Verda Marie Hoge, Dorothy Kennedy and Carroll Hoge.
Erma was born March 27, 1928, in Springville, Iowa, the daughter of Adna J. and T. Marie (Hall) Hoge. She graduated from Olney Quaker Boarding School in 1945 and attended William Penn College. In April 1949, Erma was united in marriage to Robert Lam in Whittier. She was employed at the Linn County recorder's office. She also was a secretary for multiple church facilities. She was a member of the Quaker Society of Friends and Faith Christian Fellowship. Erma enjoyed gardening, painting and cake decorating.
