LaVon “Ed” Erickson, 79, of Waite Park, Minn., died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, surrounded by his family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, Minn. Visitation will be one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Entombment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Columbium. Arrangements are with Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, Minn.
Ed was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Eden Lake Township, near Paynesville, Minn., to George and Esther (Liestman) Erickson. He graduated from Paynesville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Ed married Emogene Brekke on June 30, 1957, at St. Matthews Evangelical and Reformed Church in Forest City, Minn.
Ed was employed at First National Bank, Minneapolis, Minn.; Anoka State Bank, Anoka, Minn.; Marquette National Bank, Minneapolis, Minn.; and retired from Collins Credit Union, Cedar Rapids in December 1996.
Ed was a Scout Master, taught Jr. Achievement, served as a church council leader, provided financial mentorship to the elderly and volunteered for the food shelf. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, trapshooting, wood working, yard work, writing memoirs and stories and traveling the USA. Ed was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Genie Erickson of Waite Park, Minn.; sons, Brian (Randi) of Elk River, Minn., Brad (Pam) of Elk River, Minn. and Bruce (Kelly) of Bonney Lake, Wash.; daughter, Julie (Randy) Krebs of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Casey, Jennifer, Penny, Barry, Jared, Josh and Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Braeden, Rylan and Lilli; and one sister, Ardys Larsen of Woodbury, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Willard.
Memorials preferred.
