Engstrom, The Rev. Richard Warren
The Rev. Richard Warren Engstrom, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 5, 2010, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Brenda L.C. Peconge and the Rev. Philip Hougen. Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, at a later date. Friends may visit Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and again Tuesday after 10 a.m. at the church.
Richard is survived by his wife, Myrtle; three sons, the Rev. Carl (Charlene) of Burlington, Norman of Spring Valley, Ill., and Gordon (Amanda) of Savage, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Kirby), Matthew (Molly), Joe, Carrie (Tom), Meredith, Linnea and Whitney; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter.
Richard was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Chicago, the son of Carl and Selma Lundgren Engstrom. He married Myrtle Hultman in Chicago on June 22, 1946. He was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1946. Richard served as pastor at First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge, St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, Neb., St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Skokie, Ill., and Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Ames.
A memorial fund has been established in Richard's name.
