Emma Jean Severson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023. Family and friends will gather for an informal visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Sharon United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life is planned for later in the spring. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Laverne; children, Helen (Robert) Wertz, Boyd (Diane) Severson, Craig (Marlene) Severson, Karen (Jim) Wilson and Gary Severson; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Etta (Randy) Heaton and Jackie Hoelscher; and several special friends.
Emma was born June 30, 1931, the daughter of Waldo and Helen (Petherbridge) Curtis. On Dec. 9, 1950, she married Laverne Severson. Emma dedicated her life to caring for her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Emma enjoyed cooking, reading, quilting and hitting as many garage sales as she could. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard and Boyd Curtis; sister, Elizabeth Essex; grandsons, Jason and Justin Wilson; and granddaughter, Roberta Wertz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or Sharon United Methodist Church.
