EMERSON HOUGH
Hiawatha
Emerson Hough, 87, died March 6, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a sudden illness. Services will be at a later date in Cedar Rapids and
Emmetsburg.
Emerson grew up on a farm in Mallard, Iowa, one of 10 children. At a young age he enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served on the USS Essex CV9.
Emerson married Alice Schumacher and they had 11 children. They divorced years later. On Sept. 1, 1984, he married Geraldine Powers, who had five children. They would have celebrated 30 years to-gether.
After the war he worked on the railroad as a laborer laying track, then worked at Penick & Ford for 20 years, retiring from Cargill after 20 years.
He was a member of the American Legion in Walker.
Emerson was well known for his de-licious cookies and spa-ghetti sauce. He also loved making Geri breakfast each morning.
He will be greatly missed by his wife and furry canine friend, "Honey Bear," along with others who enjoyed his special sense of humor.
