Emde, Helen M.
Helen M. Emde, 92, longtime Iowa City resident, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at the Pleasant View Home in Kalona. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Joetown. No other services are planned. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for her family and services.
Helen Maye Emde was born Nov. 6, 1917, on the family farm near Wellman, Iowa, one of twin daughters to William H. Emde and Helene (White) Emde. For many years she cared for children out of her home here in Iowa City.
Her family includes two sisters, Marguerite Zook and Rose Marie Brenneman, both living in Kalona; brother, John Emde and his wife, Mina, of Iowa City; several nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Joanne Emde of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant twin sister; brother, Vernon Emde; and two brothers-in-law, Vernon Zook and Daniel Brenneman.
