ELVA ANNE (KRIZ) (HULL) DAVIES
Cedar Rapids
Elva Anne (Kriz) (Hull) Davies, 91, of Cottage Grove Place, passed into the presence of her Lord on Nov. 3, 2016, after a sudden illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church after a private graveside service.
Elva was born Jan. 18, 1925, and grew up in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Louis and Lois (Hurtt) Kriz. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. After high school, she attended Iowa State University and graduated with a dietetics degree.
Elva married Dr. Ray M. Hull in 1947. They lived in Wall Lake, Iowa, where Ray was the local veterinarian and Elva was a nursing home consulting dietitian. They raised three children and later divorced. After this she attended the University of Iowa, earning a master's degree in 1972. There she met and married Dr. John Leonard "Len" Davies, a professor at the university. After his retirement, they moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., to a desert property her father had homesteaded in the 1940s. She was widowed in 1981. Recently, she returned to Cedar Rapids and enjoyed life at Cottage Grove Place.
Elva was active in church, school board, politics and charitable activities. She especially enjoyed visiting, befriending and assisting the elderly or infirm.
Elva is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne (Donald) Nelson of Cedar Rapids; and son, David (Beth) Hull of Edmond, Okla.; stepdaughters, Linda Fogarty of Seattle, Wash., and Laurel Butts of Sayre, Pa.; grandchildren, Kristina (Brig) Hull and John (Christina) Blackburn; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; husbands, Ray Hull and Len Davies; and son, Bradley Hull.
Memorials may be directed to Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church, Hiawatha Care Center or Cottage Grove Place.
