Elsie Jo Schillig, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on June 24, 2023, in her home following a short illness. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 29, followed by a visitation until 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Elsie was born on March 2, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, where she was a cheerleader and senior class president. She married her high school sweetheart, Chuck, and had two children, Micki and Mike. After her kids were born, she became a caring, stay-at-home mom and focused on raising her children. She always put them first, taking her kids to many tennis tournaments and instilling excellent values in them. Elsie liked cooking and spending quality time with her family –especially boating and water skiing with them. She also enjoyed playing tennis and card games with friends. She had a passion for gardening and took great pride in growing big, ripe tomatoes. Elsie loved going to daily Mass and was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She also gave of her time to assist needy kids at Christmas through Grateful Grannies and regularly volunteered to help out at the St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival.
Elsie is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Chuck; their children, Micki (Dennis) Feldmann of Cedar Rapids; Mike (Gisela) Schillig of Tampa, Fla.; and grandson, Mac Feldmann.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Blanch and Harold Rajtora.
