Elsie was born July 29, 1915, near Laurens, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Cora Wright Clark. She was a 1937 graduate of Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn. On Feb. 14, 1938, Elsie married Alexander Ackermann. They made their home in Green Island, Iowa, where they lived for 38 years. She was employed for many years at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton and was a school nurse in Miles. In 1978, they moved to Iowa City.
Her memberships included the Kahler School of Nursing Alumni Association; St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City; and the Jackson County Humane Society. Elsie volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army in Iowa City.
Most important to Elsie was her family, her church, her experiences as a nurse and working at the Mayo Clinic, her love for animals and God's creations.
Special thanks to the caregivers at Solon Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Elsie.
Survivors include her son, George (Joyce) Ackermann of Mount Vernon and eight nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989 and her two sisters, Alice and Grace.
