Else Betty Pawlak, 87, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, in Roanoke.
Committal services for Else and Johnny Pawlak will be in the spring/ summer of 2015 at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally Schultz of Roanoke, Va., and Sandra Riner of Iowa City; a brother, Paul Schmidt of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Harriet Walter of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Clayton Dumke, Erika Clark, Schuyler Schultz and Lucy Schultz; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Johnny Pawlak; and a brother, Helmut Schmidt of Yorba Linda, Calif.
Else Schmidt married Johnny Pawlak in 1945, and the couple lived in Victor and Cedar Rapids. Else worked for years as a nurse's assistant at Mercy Medical Center. She enjoyed the hospital setting and made many friends there. She and Johnny were longtime members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
In 2004, they moved to Roanoke, Va., to be near their daughter, Sally.
