Elnora Irene Heiken Day, 94, died on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at Pinicon Place in Anamosa following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa with interment in the Riverside Cemetery. Pastor Steve Dornbusch will officiate at the services. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. at the church. Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa has taken Elnora and her family into their care.
Surviving are four children, Steve (Jean) Day, New Providence, Randy (Patty) Day, Iowa City, Nancy (Mike) Shaffer and Jon Day, both of Anamosa; 12 granchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Glenn; and two sisters, Minnie and Lucille.
Elnora Irene Heiken was born in the Antioch area east of Anamosa on Feb. 11, 1925. She was the daughter of John and Catharina Neunaber Heiken. Elnora attended rural schools near her home and graduated from Olin High School in 1943. She worked at the Anamosa Produce and the Reliance Shirt Factory. Elnora was married to Jack Day. In more recent years, she worked at HACAP. First and foremost, she was a mother raising her family, being a Blue Bird leader, a den mother and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.
Elnora was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran in 1925 and confirmed her faith at St. John's in Olin on April 30, 1939.
