Elmer Norman Olsen, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where visitation begins at 1 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Dr. James Coyle will officiate.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Charlotte; his sons, Kenneth Olsen of Toddville and Keith Olsen of Vinton; a daughter, Sharon Greenwell of Cedar Rapids; and a granddaughter, Crystal Hall of Kensett.
Elmer was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Lansing, Iowa, the son of Berger and Jeanette (Johnson) Olsen. He married Charlotte Bennett on Dec. 18, 1949, in Lansing. Elmer was a diesel mechanic for Martin Marrieta. He was a hard worker and often overhauled heavy equipment. He then worked for a gas station and Wilson/Farmstead Foods and later for Fehrle Trucking. He enjoyed playing the guitar in his spare time and served in the U.S. Army.
