Elmer Alex Leonard, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, JoAnn (Greg) Snyder, Tom Leonard, Kevin (Kelly) Leonard and Joell (Greg) Smith; brother, Joseph Leonard; sister-in-law, Ann Freeman; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Elmer was born in Hooversville, Pa., the son of Joseph and Ida Leonard. He graduated from Hooversville High School and then honorably served in the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 24, 1951, he married Irene Nagy. Elmer was an electrician at Iowa Manufacturing and an electrical inspector for Linn County. He enjoyed watching sports and playing horseshoes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; sister, Irene; and brother, Paul.
