Elmer L. Wart, 86, passed away February 23, 2024, at Unity Point-St. Lukes’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4-8 PM, Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Elmer was born on August 16, 1937, in Waubeek, Iowa. He was the son of Leroy Wart and Elsie McLucas Metcalf. Elmer enjoyed working on the farm in his younger years. Moving to Cedar Rapids in 1980, he was an all-around handyman.
People will remember Elmer riding his bike with a mower or a cart full of cans around the SE side of Cedar Rapids. The honorary mayor of Mt. Vernon Rd. had never a callous word to say about anyone. He was the loudest whistler and the best rubber-necker around. His love of music, cards, puzzles, pigs and BINGO made for an extremely generous heart and smile.
He will be missed by his family; brothers, Richard(Shirley)Ward and Maynard(Lola)Wart, and sisters Clarabelle Taylor and Dorothy(Garry)Grimm. His best friend, Rick White, and family will also miss Elmer.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents, sister Geneva(Bob)Eiben and brother in law Raymond Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial monies will help with Elmer’s final resting expenses.
