Jack was born in Monticello, Iowa on June 11, 1941. The son of Elmer and Mary (Simon) McElmeel, he graduated from Delhi High School in 1959. Jack honorably and proudly served in the United States Air Force on Active duty from August of 1959 through August of 1963 and then continued his service in the Air Force Reserves until August of 1965. He married Sharron (Hanson), his high school sweetheart on January 12, 1963. Jack was a union Sheet Metal worker for much of his career with brief stints as a restaurant/bar owner as well as an owner of a siding business.
Away from his career Jack loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He also spent many years playing softball with the “ball team”, taking an annual fishing trip with his fishing buddies, bowled in countless bowling leagues, and was known to be a handyman and tinkerer.
Jack is survived and lovingly remembered by his six children and their spouses, Michael (Starr), Deborah (John), Thomas, Steven, Matthew, and Suzanne; his 10 grandchildren and spouses, Aubrey (Tyler), Michael, Jade (Dan), Jay, Tarah, Mackenzie, E.J., Kylie, Kaydence, and Marissa; his great-grandchild, Pryor (Aubrey and Tyler); his sister and brother, Joyce and Steve; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joyce, Ron, Ellen, Carolyn; several nieces and nephews and his companion Rachelle “Shelly” Schoulte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharron; his parents, Elmer and Mary; his parents-in-law, Leo and Helen; his brother and sister, Jerry and Rosemary; his brothers-in-law Dwayne and Terry; and his sister-in-law Belinda.
A special thank-you to Robert & Diana Christen for all their help these past years. Condolences may be directed to the family individually.
