Elmer David "Dave" Frazier, 81, of Alburnett, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris; son, Gary Frazier; daughters, Linda Hamilton and Sheryl (Dennis) Perrin; grand-children, Zachary (Courtney) Perrin, Megan (Pete) Clark, Josh Perrin, Chad and Kyle Hamilton; three sisters, Helen (Homer) Wilson, Mardelle (Clete) Reincke, and Naomi Mitchell; brother, Jim (Sonya) Frazier; brothers-in-law, George (Darlene Stacy) Weeks and Dave Karr; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Grant; sister, Catherine Karr; and brothers-in-law, Howard Mitchell, Kenny Fuessley and Wendell Weeks.
Dave was born April 23, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Elmer and Della Frazier. He served in the Army from Feb. 13, 1951, to Feb. 27, 1954, achieving the rank of corporal. Dave was with the 1092 Combat Eng. Battalion, 8th Army I Corps in Korea from January 1952 to 1953.
He worked at Iowa Manufacturing (Terex) for 39 years, retiring in 1995.
Dave loved country music, playing his guitar and enjoyed writing and recording his own songs. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and entertaining his grandchildren.
Dave was a member of American Legion Post 298 of Marion and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dave's memory.
