Elliott, John W.
John W. Elliott, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Inurnment: 2 p.m. Monday, June 13, at Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Margaret; his children, Jacquelyn (Jud) Kennerson of Norwich, Conn., Bill (Denise) Elliott of Marion and Bob (Robin) Elliott of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Caron and Scott Jones, Ryan, Brandon and Amy Elliott and Shaun and Stephen Elliott; four great-grandchildren, Margaret, Aurora, Joshua and Johnathan; and sister, Barbara Jean Evans of Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born Nov. 3, 1927, the son of William and Clara (Cole) Elliott, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. On Nov. 19, 1950, John was united in marriage to Margaret Tichy in Kirksville, Mo. He worked as a bus driver for the city of Cedar Rapids, retiring in April 1983. John was a member of the Eagles 2272, Moose Lodge 304, VFW 788 and American Legion Post 5.
