Ellen "Virginia" Mackey, 96, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Colonial Manor of Amana, Iowa. Family will greet family and friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Monday
at the church. Following a reception at the church, burial will take place at Sulek Cemetery, near Shueyville, Iowa, at 1 p.m. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Virginia was born May 22, 1922, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Gershom "Jim" and Liddie (Kaplan) Cook. She graduated from Shueyville High School. On Nov. 23, 1943, Virginia was united in marriage to Robert T. Mackey at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. She was a farm wife and worked for Rockwell Collins in the print room, retiring in 1985. Virginia was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Urbana. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and baking, especially her kolaches.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Delores (David) Green of Davenport, Iowa, and Sharon (Don) Schulte of Walford, Iowa; three grandsons, Doug (Deanna) Green, Jeff (Rena) Schulte and Jason (Tracie) Schulte; nine great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Natalie, Blake, Reese, Tate, Brandon, Cheriden and Jordan; one great-great-granddaughter, Cadence; and sister-in-law, Veronica Mackey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Mackey; parents, Jim and Liddie Cook; brother, Orville (Blanche) Cook; and sister, Phyllis Kathleen (Don) Detert.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Rock Ridge Care Center of Shellsburg and Colonial Manor of Amana for the great care given to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.
