Ellen "Pat" Campbell, 77,
of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Northbrook Manor.
According to Pat's wishes, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City. Bring a covered dish to share. Private family burial will take place at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is serving the family.
Ellen Patricia was born April 21, 1941, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ernest Leroy and Rodella Catherine Cary Anderson. She married John O. Campbell in March of 1969 in Galena, Ill. Pat loved having children around. She dropped out of school in sixth grade to start taking care of children. Later in life, she started working in foster care and took in more than 100 foster children on top of raising her own 15 kids. She loved going to the cabin, watching wildlife, word searches, playing cards and vacationing in Canada.
Pat is survived by her children, Tonda (Mike) Desotel and Tammy Campbell of Central City, Art Campbell and Rob Campbell of Troy Mills, Bill Murphy, Amy Campbell, Crystal (Robert) Dayton, Kiara Campbell and Jordan Campbell of Cedar Rapids, Penny (Kim) Dake of Coggon, Kevin (Tammy) Campbell of Albuquerque, N.M., and Angie (Kevin) Mangum of Yuba City, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Campbell Jr.; two sons; one daughter; and special family friend, Judy Hudson.
Memorials may be directed to the family in care of her daughter, Tonda.
