Ellen M. Hoefer, 49, of Peosta, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home in Peosta surrounded by her family. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at St. Johns the Baptist Church in Peosta where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. They may also call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Services for Ellen will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held in St. John's Cemetery in Centralia. Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen was born March 23, 1967, in Ryan, Iowa, the daughter of Richard "Ed" and Janet (Schaul) Glynn. She was a graduate of West Delware High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. On July 23, 1994, she was united in marriage to Gregory Hoefer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan. She was employed as a counselor at Drexler Middle School in Farley.
She was a loving wife and mother who loved her family. Ellen was very devoted to her job as a school counselor and had a positive effect on many of her students. She was a member of the St. John's the Baptist Church in Peosta.
She is survived by her husband, Gregory Hoefer; two daughters, Emma and Rebecca Hoefer, all of Peosta; her parents, Richard "Ed" and Janet Glynn of Ryan; one sister, Sara (Tom) Lupkes of West Des Moines; two brothers, Todd (Lori) Glynn of Urbandale and Marty (Candice) Glynn of Grimes; maternal grandmother, Rosalyn Schaul of Manchester; father- and mother-in-law, Tom and Karen Hoefer of Earlville; one brother-in-law, Dave (Molly) Hoefer of Earlville; one sister-in-law, Tina (Mike) Schellhorn of Urbana; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James and Lucina Glynn; maternal grandfather, Ambrose Schaul; and one cousin, Sally Glynn.
