Ellen was born March 14, 1931, the daughter of Ray and Lucille (Ricketts) Canoe, in Mendon Township, Iowa. A graduate of Monona High School, she was united in marriage to Stanley Ferguson on Jan. 4, 1953, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Ellen worked in the insurance industry, retiring from United Fire in 1993.
Ellen was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for many years and was a member of the Woman's Postal Auxiliary. She was a caring, soft-hearted person who was dedicated to her church. Ellen enjoyed traveling, swimming, dancing, bowling, playing games and liked being fair to all. But most of all, her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren, who participated in Wiffle ball and water balloon tosses.
