Neumann, 95, of Solon, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Solon Care
Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Visitation will be a half an hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in West Union Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.
Ella was born April 2, 1919, in rural West Union, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Haller) Stahr. On June 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Neumann in Oregon City, Ore. They were blessed with three children, Daryl, Diane and Dale.
Ella first worked at the West Union Hospital as a nurse's aid. Later, she assisted her husband in the creamery as a cream tester. After moving to Elkader, she was employed at the Elkader Wire and Display Co., where she retired after 17 years. She liked to compete in recipe contests, winning the best cookie recipe in 1989. Ella enjoyed her many flower and vegetable gardens and took many bus trips with friends.
Ella is survived by her son, Dale (Sharon) of Traverse City, Mich.; daughter, Diane Stahle of Solon; daughter-in-law, Denise Neumann of Ankeny; two brothers, Donald (Marjorie) of Evansdale and Dwaine (Irene) of West Union; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Daryl; son-in-law, Sam Stahle; and sister, Esther Heineman.
