Cedar Rapids
Elizabeth D. Tack passed away July 30, 2014, at Northbrook Manor at the age of 95. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet family and friends at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home a half hour before the service. A lunch will be held after the service for a time to reminisce.
Elizabeth was born in her home in Cedar Rapids on July 8, 1919, to Stephen and Anna Orlak. She spent part of her youth in Chicago and always held a special place for the Cubs. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1937. She married Clarence Tack on May 20, 1946, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary before his death in 1996.
Over the years, she worked at A&P and was bookkeeper for her husband's business. She also did day care in her home for many years. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, gardening, canning and plastic canvas projects. She also taught Red Cross swimming lessons at Ellis Park.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepfather John Zalumski; and siblings Anna, Paul and Grace.
Survivors include her son, Ron (Ann) Tack of Marion; daughter, Linda (Tim) Nolan of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Andy (Emily) Tack, Mark (Jaime) Tack, Abby (Cory Fabert) Nolan, Holly (John) Pacubas and Casey Nolan; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lila, Jameson, Nick, Noah, Ally and
Gavin.
Elizabeth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, love of nature and sense of humor.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hogenson for his compassionate care and Home Choice and Meals on Wheels for their wonderful help so that Elizabeth could stay in her home until last December. Also, thank you to the wonderful staff at Northbrook Manor who took such great care of her and to Hospice of Mercy who helped so much in her final days.
Memorial donations in Elizabeth's name may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be sent at www.cedarmemorial.com under "Obituaries."
