ELIZABETH MULHOLLAND
Cedar Rapids
Elizabeth Mulholland (Mickey), 100, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 20, 2021. She was born Dec. 30, 1920, in New York. Elizabeth married Edward Mulholland in New York, where they raised their three daughters on Long Island. In 1988, Elizabeth and Edward moved to Cedar Rapids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Dorothy, Edith and Mary; and her oldest daughter, Margaret Kadlec. Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Schuster (Steve) and Cecilia Lane (William); along with eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was a lifelong Catholic and an active parishioner, most recently at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for 24 years. In 2018, she received a pin recognizing the accomplishment of 11,000 volunteer hours. She spoke highly of her friends there and thought greatly of the active mission of Mercy Hospital. Elizabeth was an active member of the YMCA, where she loved to participate in water aerobics.
Her 100th birthday was celebrated via Zoom call with family from all around the country. When asked what advice she had for living such a long life, she proudly proclaimed "A glass of red wine every day."
She will forever be remembered as a caring and fun loving matriarch.
