Elizabeth “Liz” Zwanziger, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, March 28, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 10, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior.
Liz was born on May 12, 1932, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Walter and Gladys (McDonald) Jahn. She graduated from Reynolds High School in Illinois before earning a degree in Home Economics with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Dubuque. On June 21, 1953, she married Otto Alfred Zwanziger at Zion Lutheran Church in Taylor Ridge, Illinois. Liz dedicated her early years to teaching, working at schools in Letts and Dubuque, Iowa, and later doing substitute teaching. A woman of faith, she was a devoted member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. In her free time, Liz found joy in gardening, cooking, and traveling on family vacations.
Survivors include her sons, Paul (Deborah Johnson) Zwanziger of Cedar Rapids, Alan (Jodi) Zwanziger of Boulder City, Nevada, and Greg (Kim) Zwanziger of Savage, Minnesota; daughter, Barbara (Steve) Williams of Muscatine; grandchildren, Bradley, Danielle Zwanziger, Brett Williams, Brandon Williams, John (Kate Raddatz) Zwanziger, and Jessica (Bill) Brown; six great-grandchildren, Landon Zwanziger, Rowan Zwanziger, Grey Zwanziger, June Zwanziger, Gwendolyn Zwanziger, and Bailey Brown; and sister-in-law, Janice Jahn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gladys Jahn; husband, Otto Zwanziger; sister, Mildred (Jack) Boney; brother, Donald Jahn; and brothers-in-law, Walter Zwanziger, Raymond (Ruth) Zwanziger, Alwin (Ethel) Zwanziger, and Ernest (Lillian and Fonda) Zwanziger; and sisters-in-law, Hilda Zwanziger and Esther (Herbert) Andreae.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 4420 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
