Elizabeth “Liz” A. Young, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Harmony of Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, officiated by Rev. Matt German. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her children, Reed Young of Coralville, Iowa, and Rod (Joan) Young of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan (Theresa) Young, Brad (Marie) Young, and Nathan Young (Carlyne Pham); great-grandchildren, Elliot, Sophia, Lincoln, and Evelyn Young; sister, Catherine Reed Bromley of Orem, Utah; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lucille Reed; husband, Ron Young in 2014; brother, Steve Reed; and brother-in-law, Michael Bromley.
Liz was born March 15, 1938, in Clarendon, Arkansas, the daughter of Claude and Lena “Lucille” (Rains) Reed. She dedicated ten years of her career to APAC after retiring from Mutual of Omaha, where she worked for 20 years. On October 24, 1957, she married Ronald “Ron” Young in Kirksville, Missouri. She was extremely proud of her family. She loved bingo, casinos, playing cards and board games.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose International Chapter 515 for many years, and Salem United Methodist Church.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mercy Hospital, PCI, and Hospice of Mercy and ManorCare/Harmony of Cedar Rapids.
Instead of flowers, memorials are requested to Hospice of Mercy or Salem United Methodist Church in Liz’s memory.
