Elizabeth Jean “Jeanie” Sampson, 88, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Wyoming, Iowa, Donna, Texas, and Bonaparte, Iowa, passed away at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1933, in Farmington, Iowa, the daughter of Stanley and Elsie (Matthies) Medaris. On Sept. 14, 1951, she married Edwin K. Sampson in Montezuma, Iowa.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura (Dean) Hiner of Maquoketa, Iowa, Deb Sampson of Marion, Iowa, and Rhonda (Phil) Reed of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Pat (Joyce) Medaris and Dan (Beverly) Medaris.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; two sisters, Irene and Kareen; and one brother, Don.

Jeanie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Onslow, Iowa. She was a kindergarten teacher at Grace Christian School, where she also had many volunteer hours. She and her husband owned Ed’s Plumbing and Heating in Wyoming, Iowa, until they retired in 1999. Jeanie enjoyed playing cards and reading books. She especially loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be begin at noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, with Pastor Mark Caston officiating.

Burial will be at Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in her memory for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
