Elizabeth J. Rice, 103 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 10 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Elizabeth J. Rice was born on Feb. 8, 1919, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Polly (Lewis) Jones. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Robert Rice on Jan. 18, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. She lived in Ely, Iowa, before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1951. Elizabeth was an active member of Central Park Presbyterian Church and the Echo Hills Presbyterian Church. She belonged to Kings Daughters, VFW Auxiliary and Cedar Rapids Women’s Club. Elizabeth volunteered at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital and Meals on Wheels. Elizabeth was employed at Killian’s from 1962-82 in the Men’s Department.
Elizabeth loved flowers and spending time with her brothers and sisters and their families above all else. She thoroughly enjoyed all the family gatherings and events that occurred. We all appreciated her baking skills. Elizabeth was generous with her time and her caring for others. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (Jim) Rice Unrau; grandchildren, Gregg J. Rice, Todd M (Erica) Unrau and Susan E (Rob) English; great-grandchildren, Julia Rice, Mary Unrau, Mather and Sam English; a sister, Mary Martin; many nieces and nephews; and loving extended family members.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Mather Rice; a son, Cliff Rice; grandson, Joseph Mather Unrau; two brothers, Robert A Jones and Edmund “sunk” Jones; and a sister, Margaret Hiscock.
Memorials are to be sent to Hospice of Mercy in Elizabeth’s honor.
