The daughter of John and Frances (Scheer) Lauinger. Betty married R.I. "Lee" Leeland on Aug. 27, 1949. Betty was often referred to as the 'Hosta Lady' due to her passion about her Hosta garden and providing hostas and assistance to others. She also enjoyed selling her baked good at local farmer markets. For many years, Betty enjoyed crafting and selling her pinecone and dried flower creations at Christmas shows and markets. Betty was quite adventurous and had flown in small ultra-light airplanes, rode in small helicopters, skied in Colorado Rockies, swam in the ocean, rode horses, rode on motorcycles and loved to travel.
Betty shared her life with her husband, Lee; sons, Wayne (Linda) Leeland of Nelson, Wis., and Michael (Susan) Leeland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughters, Sheran (Daniel) Gatto of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Karen (Roger) Huntington of Tomball, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Lauinger; her son, Daniel Scott Leeland; a great-grandson; and seven of her 10 brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the YMCA of Marion or Scared Heart Convent.
