Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Pickart, 95, of Norway, Iowa, passed away April 7, 2023, at Compass Memorial, Marengo, Iowa.
Betty was born Sept. 28, 1927, to Arthur and Emma (Broz) Kuen on the family farm in rural Iowa county. She attended Norway High School. On April 13, 1948, Betty married Theodell “Ted” Pickart at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway. Together they purchased their farm, where they worked the farm and raised their family. As their children grew older, Betty went to work for the grocery store. In 1984 they moved to town and Betty worked for the Norway School and later at variety of shops in Amana.
Betty was a great baker, making cinnamon rolls, kolaches, and killer chocolate angel food cake. She enjoyed cross stitching and gardening, in which she did lots of canning. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and checking in on the family farm.
Betty was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Norway American Legion Auxiliary, and the Foresters Society.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Gary (Amy) of Ankeny, Mike (Stacie) of Norway and Ron (Leora) of Norway; great-grandchildren, Chase, Ben, Leon, Lachlan, Lloyd, Arlo Jane and Erin; nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodell Pickart (2004); son, Dwayne Pickart (1969); daughter, Dorothy Miller (2019); son-in-law, Paul “Frank” Miller (2022); and siblings, Laverne Schulte and Bern Sokol.
The family would like to thank Compass Memorial and Rose Haven Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Norway, with Father Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Norway.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at St. Michael’s parish center. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
