Elinor "Ellie" Myrene Witwer of Marion, formerly
of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at her home. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to
1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marion. A private family committal service will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Ellie was born in Van Horne, Iowa, the daughter of Laurence and Elizabeth (Brant) Possehl. She graduated from Marengo High School and then attended Paris Academy of Hair Stylists at the Paris Beauty Salon. On June 14, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ellie was united in marriage to Henry Evans Witwer. For 25 years, she worked beside her husband in their insurance business. Ellie was a member of New Covenant Bible Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and helped with many other activities. She held offices at the Cedar Rapids Christian School as well as the Gideon Auxiliary. She enjoyed the gift of giving the word of the Lord to others. Ellie enjoyed baking, gardening, playing golf, helping others in need, and especially being with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, David (Genese) Witwer of California, Greg (Nancy) Witwer of Georgia and Joan (Gary) Riley of California; eight grandchildren, Charisse (Chris) Isa, Chandria Witwer, Chelsea Witwer, Colby (Alyssa) Witwer, Abbey (Blake) West, Katie (Jordan) Hand, Brittney (Keith) Tanaka and McKenzie Riley; and eight great-grandchildren, Camden, Chancelar, Chaylee, Cheldon, Braxxon, Isabella, Liliana and Hudson.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Keith Possehl; and sister, Laurene Miller.
