Elias, John 'Jack' Richard
John “Jack” Richard Elias, 64, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in Pocatello, Idaho. A celebration of Jack's life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Sykora Bakery, 73 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at a later date in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 21, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Elsie (Sykora) Elias. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. His grandparents owned Sykora Bakery and he spent much of his youth there. As a teenager he worked and lived there with his grandfather after his grandmother died. He married Diane Dinter and was later divorced but they remained good friends. In Cedar Rapids, he last worked at McGrath Pontiac.
He moved to Pocatello in the late 1970s and last worked there at Ballard Medical. Jack had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together sometimes fixing them in the process. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles doing them in ink.
Jack had many friends both in Cedar Rapids and Pocatello and will be greatly missed by all of them.
Jack is survived by his sister, Peg Dvorak of Cedar Rapids, and her children, Julia Dvorak of Hiawatha and Shawn and wife Deb Dvorak and their two children of Clermont, Fla.; and an uncle Charles Elias of Minneapolis.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother-in-law, Dennis Dvorak; and numerous aunts and uncles.
