Eleanor Schlimmer, 94, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Rahe and Donna Schlimmer, both of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons, Curt, Kyle and Chad Rahe; a granddaughter-in-law, Dawn Rahe; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Brayden; and special nieces, Peg, Pam and Carrie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Todd Rahe; four sisters, Mabel King, Lauretta O'Toole, Wanda Waldron and Sylvia Stotler; three brothers, Harlan, Ernest and Dean Cooper; and infant twin brothers.
Eleanor Eldora Cooper was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Lovell Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Anna Egger Cooper. She attended Lovell Township School No. 6 and graduated from Monticello Community High School in 1940. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and received her teaching certificate. Eleanor taught in a rural school in Johnson County and later taught third grade in Coggon. With the start of World War II, Eleanor enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a BAM.
Eleanor returned to Iowa after the war and married William Schlimmer on Nov. 30, 1950, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rectory. For many years, Eleanor was a housewife and mother. She also took care of her parents for many years. She was employed at Monty Produce for 15 years and also worked part-time at Goettsch Funeral Home.
Eleanor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Rebecca Circle and the service committee. She was a Camp Fire leader for many years and received the Mary Gulick award.
Those who called her Mom, Grandma or Auntie Eleanor, will miss her smile, her wit and her positive attitude.
