Eleanor was born on April 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Leona (Pichner) Kennedy. She graduated from Onslow High School in Onslow, Iowa. Eleanor attended Grinnell College for two years before graduating from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was united in marriage to William B. Walters on Feb. 21, 1953, in Cedar Rapids.
Eleanor taught high school for 15 years, including 11 years at Wyoming, Iowa. She was very active in the Onslow and Wyoming Presbyterian Churches and served as an elder, a youth fellowship advisor, a Sunday school teacher and a circle chairwoman. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood of Anamosa, a member of the Wyoming Library board and a member of numerous other community and social organizations.
Eleanor was exceptionally well read, loved history, had a keen sense of humor, and enjoyed playing cards, games and spending time with her family. Her Iowa Hawkeyes tailgating sandwiches were legendary among her grandchildren. We will all miss her energy and zest for life.
Eleanor is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, William Walters of Marion; two sons, Kenny (Rhonda) Walters of Marion and David (Laura) Walters of Traverse City, Mich.; five grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Aubrey, Ella and Emma; and six great-grandchildren, Beckett, Kaedin, Keller, Lincoln, Jozie and Maggie.
