Eleanor Jane Henecke
Palo
On Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, Eleanor Jane Henecke of Palo, Iowa, passed away. A lifelong resident of the Palo/Shellsburg area, Jane as she was known, was born on April 18, 1939, to Eldon and Alberta (Railsback) Minor. On Aug. 8, 1959, she married her husband David (Henecke) of almost 60 years together until his passing in 2019.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Cedar Memorial’s Chapel of memories from 9 to 10:30 a.m. directly followed by a 10:30 a.m. Celebration of Life ceremony. Private family Interment following the service.
Jane grew up in Palo and Shellsburg and attended school in both. As a girl, she loved riding horses and playing basketball as a teenager in high school. She was active in school activities and graduated from Palo High School. As an adult, she had many jobs. Most notably was her time as an Avon Lady in Atkins and her time at the Armstrong’s Department store in home goods. Her real passion was raising her family and taking care of the home and supporting her husband. She spent her later years as the glue that held her family together, planning family gatherings and keeping all communication open.
In support of her husband’s role in his service work with the Lions Club, Jane became an active participant helping him with the many tasks and functions that his roles required. This allowed her to travel to many regional and national functions which she very much enjoyed. Mostly she loved meeting new people.
On her downtime, she enjoyed family get togethers and visiting with anyone that would talk to her. She was always ready for a good conversation and truly compassionate to everyone. She always greeted you with a smile. She also loved to watch Boys and Girls college basketball. Springtime was a real treat for her with all the tournament play and she was always well versed in the teams and players every year.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; her husband’s parents; and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Minor.
Surviving is her children, Brian (Stephanie), Brad and Brett; grandchildren, Kathryn (Jeff) Wyssenbach and Noah Henecke; stepgrandchildren, Brynn and Bennett Carr; great-grandchildren, Mikhail and Isaac; brothers, George Minor and Dick (Pat) Minor; brother-in-law, Dr. Gary Allen (Raedean) Henecke; and many more extended family.
Memorial donations may be made out to the family to be dispersed later.
